Welcome to the Texaco Young Musician of Wales 2009 competition
The 2009 Texaco Young Musician of Wales competition has now taken place and the title has passed to 17-year-old cellist, Steffan Morris. He is no stranger to the event as he came second in the 2007 competition. Second place went to 17-year-old harpist Anne Denholm, and third place was secured by Steffan Ciccotti, another 17-year-old who played the marimba. The two other runners-up were both 12, Ben Creighton Griffiths, another harpist, and David Shaw, who played the violin.
The competition took place in Cardiff’s St David’s Hall on Saturday 7 March.
The competition is open to musicians under the age of 20 on the date of the final and who were born in Wales or have lived or studied in Wales for a significant period.
The Texaco Young Musician of Wales is run by Chevron and Côr Meibion De Cymru, the South Wales Male Voice Choir, and held in association with the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra.
