Rules and Conditions

The essential qualifications of age and residence are detailed below. In addition participants are advised that they should have musical accomplishment at least equivalent to Grade 7 ABRSM. Completed entry forms must reach Ken Crowle, 28 Min-Y-Coed, Radyr, Cardiff CF15 8AQ by 31 July 2008.

Please read the rules and conditions below carefully before completing the form.

  1. The competition will be known as the TEXACO YOUNG MUSICIAN OF WALES 2009.
  2. Chevron and Côr Meibion De Cymru will be the organisers.
  3. There is no lower age limit for competitors but they should not have reached the age of 20 on the 31 March 2009.
  4. Competitors may play any orchestral instrument including the piano, guitar and recorder.
  5. Completed entry forms should be returned to Ken Crowle, 28 Min-Y-Coed, Radyr, Cardiff CF15 8AQ together with a stamped addressed envelope by 31 July 2008. An entry fee of £10 must also be enclosed (cheques payable to CMDC Young Musician of Wales). This entry fee will be refunded when the competitor attends a preliminary round of the competition.
  6. Entries to the competition will only be accepted from instrumentalists born in Wales, or who received a significant proportion of their secondary education in Wales, or from instrumentalists who have lived permanently in Wales for a period of five years or more.
  7. Competitors will not be required to play from memory at any stage of the competition - the use of music will not incur penalties.
  8. Competitors must provide their own instrument and own accompanist. A high quality piano tuned to concert pitch will be provided at all venues.
  9. All sheet music must be original and competitors must provide a copy for the adjudicators. *Photocopies of sheet music will not be accepted unless written permission has been given by the publisher.
  10. Competitors will not receive any reimbursement from the organisers for travel or accommodation during the preliminary rounds and regional finals. The organisers will refund reasonable expenses for the final.
  11. Applicants may enter one or more instruments provided they do so on separate application forms.
  12. The organisers reserve the right to:
    1. record any part of the competition
    2. make video or other films of any part of the competition
    3. broadcast by sound or television any part of the competition and to authorise the recording, filming or broadcasting of any part of the competition.
    No performance fees will be paid by the organisers to the individuals for any performance relating to this competition.
  13. The decision of the adjudicators will be final. No verbal or written adjudication will be available to competitors in the preliminary and regional rounds.
  14. Entry will be conditional on acceptance of the rules and conditions in this entry form. In the event of any dispute arising out of the rules and conditions, the decision of the organisers will be final.
